What is IVF?

In an IVF cycle, medication helps several eggs mature. The eggs are collected in a short procedure, fertilised in the laboratory, and the embryos are grown for up to 5 days. One embryo is then placed in the womb, and any suitable embryos left can be frozen for later. With Family Art IVF, the steps before and after the procedures in Baku take place at our partner clinic in London, MotherScan.

Who can benefit from IVF?

  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • Low sperm count or sperm that move poorly
  • Ovulation problems that other treatment has not solved
  • Unexplained infertility after trying for some time
  • After simpler treatments, such as IUI, have not worked

Partner clinic in London: MotherScan

IVF medication, in plain language

Stimulation injections
Daily hormone injections help several eggs mature at the same time, instead of the one egg of a natural cycle.
The trigger injection
A single injection, timed precisely, completes egg maturation so the eggs are ready for collection.
Support after transfer
Progesterone supports the lining of the womb after embryo transfer.
Cost of medication
Medication is not included in the IVF package and is paid separately; the IVF with NGS package (£7,000) includes it.

Honest expectations

Physically
Bloating and tenderness during stimulation are common and usually settle after egg collection.
Emotionally
Waiting for results is hard for most people. Your UK team stays in touch throughout.
Practically
Treatment abroad is planned as short visits, so time away from home and work stays short.

Risks and side effects

Ovarian hyperstimulation
An over-response to stimulation medication. Your dose and scans are planned to keep this risk low.
Multiple pregnancy
Transferring more than one embryo raises the chance of twins, which carries higher risks in pregnancy.
The procedures
Egg collection and embryo transfer are short procedures; your doctor explains what to expect before each one.

IVF: questions people ask

Where does IVF treatment take place?

Your consultation is with our UK team, and your tests take place at our partner clinic in London, MotherScan, in Wimbledon or Islington. Egg collection, fertilisation and embryo transfer take place at DNA Clinic in Baku, with procedures at Caspian International Hospital. Follow-up scans take place back in London, and the birth takes place in the UK.

How long do I need to stay in Baku for IVF?

Usually two short visits. Both partners come to Baku for egg collection day, and the eggs are fertilised the same day. The woman then returns alone for the embryo transfer, at least 5 days later. There is no need to stay in between. Your UK team confirms the dates before anything is booked.

What does the IVF package include?

The IVF package costs £4,500. It includes accommodation at CityLife Boutique Hotel and transfers between the airport, the hotel and the clinic. Medication is paid separately. Your first step is a free consultation with our UK team. Tests and follow-up scans in London are paid separately to our partner clinic, MotherScan, at its own prices. Flights and insurance are not included.

Can I add genetic screening of the embryos?

Yes. IVF with NGS genetic screening is a separate package at £7,000. NGS (next generation sequencing) tests embryos for chromosomal conditions before one is chosen for transfer. Your doctor explains whether it is useful in your case during the consultation.

Where will the birth take place?

In the UK, with NHS or private maternity care. Treatment takes place in Baku; the pregnancy is followed up in London and the birth does not take place abroad. Your UK team explains how to register with maternity care once you are pregnant.
